According to the 2021 Census, there are about 1.45 million elderly people aged 65 and above in Hong Kong, accounting for about 20% of the city’s total population. In the face of an aging population, the elderly’s living quality has become a major concern of the community. Physical living environments and supporting services are key to the physical and mental health of older adults. Therefore, improving the built environment and services for the elderly is a crucial element in promoting ageing in place. An age-friendly living environment requires suitable built environments and services to meet the needs of the elderly with varying abilities.
Thanks to the support of our Incubators - ZeShan Foundation and Ho Cheung Shuk Yuen Charitable Foundation, together with the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and CUHK Jockey Club Institute of Ageing, Happy Ageing Lab is going to organise an interdisciplinary innovation seminar. We hope to explore ways to cultivate an age-friendly living environment with people from the built environment, elderly services and social innovation sectors through the seminar.
The seminar will be divided into two sessions with themes of built environment and elderly services respectively. Each seminar features a keynote presentation and panel discussion, Q&A sessions and interactive activities. We welcome people from different sectors to participate and exchange ideas with each other.
